Boycott of McDonald: More than Burger and Fries
A grassroots advocacy group is urging a week‑long boycott of McDonald’s, accusing the fast‑food chain of price gouging, unfair labor practices, and tax avoidance.
“This isn’t just about burgers and fries – it’s about power,” said People’s Union USA on Instagram. “When we unite and hit corporations in their wallets, they listen.”
The group, which previously rallied against Amazon, Nestlé, Walmart, General Mills, and Target, claims McDonald’s uses a range of questionable tactics.
Earlier this month, People’s Union leader John Schwarz said McDonald’s has a history of suppressing workers, blocking union efforts, exploiting global supply chains and environmental loopholes, and offering token diversity initiatives while its political donations and lobbying support lawmakers and policies that undermine equity, labor rights, and marginalized communities.
The boycott call comes amid troubles for the fast‑food giant, including a fall 2024 E. coli outbreak tied to Quarter Pounders, declining sales, and backlash over its decision in January to roll back diversity programs—mirroring moves by other companies following Donald Trump’s election.
