Amazon’s CEO Andy Jassy openly warned that AI will change jobs — and that’s not such a bad thing
Recently, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy told his employees that generative AI will soon reshape how work gets done at Amazon. He said it will likely reduce the number of white‑collar or corporate roles, but made it clear that hearing this early might actually be helpful.
Amazon’s CEO warned that AI will change jobs
Jassy’s memo was a major moment — while other CEOs have hinted that AI will alter jobs, Jassy was one of the first to state clearly that tools like these could lead to fewer corporate positions at Amazon.
Experts say being upfront is smart leadership. Christopher Myers from Johns Hopkins’s Carey Business School said it’s better for bosses to admit AI will change jobs than to stay silent and leave employees guessing.
Looking ahead, workers can take steps to stay relevant. Jassy suggested that employees should learn about AI, get training, try it out, and find ways to boost their own output. He believes those who get comfortable with AI will be in prime position to shape Amazon’s future.
Psychologist Elaine Ryan noted that many people have anxiety about AI. The challenge isn’t only about job security — it’s also about feeling useful and valued. She reminded workers that human skills like empathy, emotional intelligence, and deep thinking will still be important, and could actually grow in value despite AI’s rise.
